SMART Train Coming to Healdsburg

Background Information

SMART has received grant funding to complete rail and pathway construction from the Santa Rosa to Windsor segment and begin design and construction work from Windsor to Healdsburg. The City now has the opportunity to determine a station location that best meets the needs of the community and future riders.

The location of the station is critical in planning for the expansion and needs to be decided soon. Potential station location sites include the depot site on Hudson Street as well as a downtown site adjacent to the City Parking lot on Vine Street between North Street and Matheson Street. 

September 17, 2025: SMART Board Meeting

The Board of Directors of Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) authorized extension of the SMART train through Healdsburg at its September 17, 2025 meeting. Design work is scheduled to start in fall of this year. SMART has released an initial goal of beginning passenger train service in Healdsburg by the end of 2028. We will provide more detailed scheduling as well as periodic updates and project information as it becomes available. February 20, 2024 City Council Meeting

On February 20, 2024 the City Council  heard from numerous members of the community and weighed the pros and cons of two options for location of the future SMART rail station in Healdsburg. After thorough discussion, the Council opted to confirm past decisions to locate the station at the historic depot site on Hudson Street.
